About the Feral Cat Society of Austin
Statistics indicate that Austin Texas is home to a variety of
resident feral cat colonies whose population exceeds one
hundred thirty thousand (130,000) in number. The colonies
that remain unchecked grow exponentially in number and the
ever increasing population often suffers cruelty, malnutrition,
disease and death. They are often afflicted with diseases such
as ringworm, bartonella and rabies that can be passed to
humans through physical contact. There is pressing need for a
comprehensive response program to address the feral cat
capture, spay, neuter, release and adoption for Austin and the
surrounding county.
The Feral Cat Society of Austin strives to control and maintain
the regional feral cat population through a variety of
educational and proactive programs.
